Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brasserie, 36 Robert Boden Grove, Yarralumla, Canberra

In exactly 20 days from today, I will be hosting the exhibition ‘Lake and Beyond’ with fellow artist Claire B. Cusack. The exhibition is a culmination of over three years of painting, for me mostly outdoors immersed in nature, except for the large panorama painting I did on my old apartment balcony looking over the lake.

The exhibition features paintings of life on and around Lake Burley Griffin, Lake George as well as numerous rare and beautiful birds, and other wildlife local to the region.

I’m especially excited to be hosting the exhibition alongside the talented and passionate nature lover and artist Claire B. Cusack. Claire paints animals and birds like no other artist I know. In her work you can see her passion and observation of nature, her birds especially. You just need look for the twinkle in the eyes of her birds, which appear to be thinking and looking right at you.

The exhibition includes a selection of over 50 artworks, oils, watercolour and pastel paintings that explore life on the lake and beyond on Ngunnawal, Ngambri and Yuin country of Southeastern Australia.

If you are a local you may well know or have spent time browsing the fabulous Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brasserie. The heritage gallery is located in Weston, adjacent to Lake and right next door to the fabulous Heritage Nursery.

I have fond memories of painting with Claire in the english style gardens. We observed dogs and their walkers one warm spring day, when the blossoms were in full bloom. I’ve always enjoyed the peacefulness and the atmosphere of the gallery with its relaxed cafe garden experience in the Historical Hobday Cottage. The gardens are filled with tall trees and winding pathways and the entrance to the Gallery is located just off of Weston Park Road, with easy parking and accessibility.

I’m exhibiting some of my landscapes, which hold so many memories and stories for me. I calculated that I have spent over 40 years of my life in Canberra and it never ceases to amaze me, just how many new things I have yet to explore with my paints. So lookout for Claire and myself in the gallery as we will setting up on the opening weekend, 8 and 9th September and running until 20 October 2024. We hope you will join us and come say hi, while enjoying exploring our artwork.
